The KNM Skjold (Shield) is a coastal corvette of the Norwegian navy. The Skjold class is characterized by its speed, reduced signatures, small size and heavy weapon load. This class has a perfect littoral combat capability. The Skjold has an air-cushioned catamaran hull with water jet propulsion which provides high speed and a great maneuverability. She was constructed with glass fibre / carbon composite materials. The Skjold is the first ship of the class and commissioned in April 1999.
